The HeavensATX ← All concepts

Come for the weekend. Leave a better person.

Thirty acres of cedar forest in Cedar Creek, twenty minutes from downtown Austin: twelve hand-built domes, a limestone pool with a waterfall, and a kitchen fed by the gardens. Healthy ecosystems create healthy humans.

Under construction now. Opening news goes to the list first.

It started as a home. It became a community project.

People used to come over for dinner. Then they started staying the whole weekend, out on the hikes, back by the fire for s'mores. Our founders have a short name for what happens here: “It’s an experience.”

The Heavens is built inside a living habitat, not on top of one. The cedars, live oaks and hollies stay. The coyotes and bobcats keep their routes. Everything we add (domes, pool, gardens, stage) is meant to make the land healthier, because the land is what sends you home “a better person.”

“The health of a species is the habitat made visible.”
Dan Mages, co-founder, philosophy professor and author of Tribal Truths

Three ways to sleep under the cedars

Every room is one-of-one: aircrete shells, stained glass cut by hand, and reclaimed cedar where you would expect plastic.

Twelve constellation domes

The country’s first domed aircrete eco-luxury resort. Each dome is named for a constellation (Virgo, Scorpio, Leo and nine more), with Spanish Neo-Gothic arches, handcrafted stained glass by Jim Berry of Blue Moon Glassworks, and one-of-one interiors in reclaimed cedar, down to the hand-carved sinks.

  • Stained glass
  • Reclaimed cedar
  • Skylight cupola

Waterfall-front villas

Overnight studios on the rim of the pool, close enough to fall asleep to the twelve-foot waterfall.

  • Poolside
  • Overnight stays

Nature-preserve tents

Glamping on raised decks in the cedar hills, out where the coyotes and bobcats keep their routes. Canvas walls, cedar all around, and the forest right outside the flap.

A limestone pool you walk into like a beach

Two hundred thousand gallons, all natural, edged in Texas limestone and fed by a twelve-foot waterfall: the largest all-natural beach-entry resort pool in Austin. Come for the night, or come for the day: day passes and shaded cabanas are part of the plan.

Oeste: dinner from the garden out back

The old ranch house becomes Oeste, a garden-to-table restaurant with a juice and spirits bar. Part of what lands on your plate is grown in the gardens out back; the kitchen is built on organic food experience from Old Coyote Cafe.

  • Organic, non-GMO ingredients
  • Seed-oil-free cooking
  • Grown on the land, in hand-built garden beds

Made for the days you gather everyone

A 450-seat amphitheater cut into the meadow, a yoga pagoda in the trees, and room for weddings, retreats and live music. Co-founder Roland Barrera has produced more than a thousand live events and designs the gatherings here.

  • Weddings & celebrations
  • Wellness and team retreats
  • Live music under the stars
  • Morning yoga in the pagoda

One small bridge. One busy week.

Behind the house, a little bridge crosses the water. The neighbors set up trail cameras, and in a single week the traffic was astonishing, in the middle of the day. Coyotes. Skunks. Bobcats carrying rabbits. This is the habitat the resort lives inside.

Under the canopy: coastal live oak, cedar, American holly and Ashe juniper.

Close to the city. Far from it, too.

Cedar Creek, Bastrop County, off Northside Lane and FM 535. Close enough for a Friday-night escape, and right next door when Formula One and the big concerts come to the Circuit of the Americas.
